OUR MISSION—To provide high-quality people first service
and support to adults with intellectual, developmental and
autism spectrum disabilities so that each may achieve and
enjoy a life of possibilities.

In the Lehigh Valley, SPIN supports adults with disabilities through residential services, providing a safe, supported place to live in the community, employment services by assisting to find and maintain employment and community participation support to become more independent.

We discover and develop each person’s strengths, resources, and abilities while supporting them along their journey of living a life of possibilities. At SPIN, we ask each person and family to believe in those possibilities as we create an environment of inclusion and hope. We believe people thrive when support is person-centered and family-focused and always there when they need it.

SPIN Children’s Services—Nothing is more important to a child’s future than a caring, nurturing, early learning environment. Our services include education services for children and youth with neurodiverse care, behavioral health services, and Autism services.

SPIN Community & Fitness—Welcomes people of all abilities and seeks to provide a Life of Possibilities by offering physical, recreational, arts and educational activities to shape healthy and meaningful lifestyles. We prepare pregnant women and mothers
of infants for a life of self-reliance.

Our center opened in 2012 at the former St. Simon and Jude Convent, and was named after Cay Galgon, a wonderful woman, community leader, and champion for pregnant women and their babies. The building was renovated into a beautiful group home with seven rooms for homeless pregnant women. From the beginning our focus has been on healthy pregnancies, educational/vocation support, and housing.

Over the years, our services have expanded to include services for pregnant women, mothers, and their families throughout our community, where we meet the needs of more than 500 women each year. Our services and case management provide urgent needs and relational support for women from pregnancy through their child’s first birthday,

Client Services, Housing, and Economic Empowerment are at the heart of our work and are woven into all aspects of our programs. We have established partnerships with other organizations that provide supportive services, and we collaborate with other local Lehigh Valley agencies to provide resources and the best outcomes for our clients.

Cay Galgon’s legacy was her tenacious, active fight for the most vulnerable in our communities, and this fight continues daily through our work as we prepare pregnant women and mothers of infants for a life of self-reliance.

Grace Community Foundation Food Bank

The Food Bank is operated by the Grace Community Foundation, a 501 (c)3 organization whose mission is to reduce hunger in downtown Allentown by providing supplemental food and humanitarian services to inner city residents.

Founded by Rev. Donald H. Knapp, the former rector at Grace Episcopal Church located at 108 N. 5th Street. It started small—literally—in a closet at the church, where food was stored. Church members and Rev. Knapp contributed their own money to purchase limited amounts of food for struggling community members in downtown Allentown. The food bank grew from there. During the 1970s & 1980s, community needs increased. Word spread about the food bank and downtown residents flocked to Grace Church for assistance. The food bank operations expanded: Soon Grace Church was serving hundreds of families each month.

In 1994, Rev. Knapp retired from Grace Church, and at the same time, the thriving food bank recognized the need to form its own nonprofit, separate from the church. The Grace Community Foundation was born. In 1997, a dedicated volunteer, Patty McNamara, took over full-time operations and has run the food bank since that time. The Food Bank is open on Fridays, 9 to 11 a.m. and the third and fourth Saturdays, 9 to 11 a.m. and is located at Hadesty Hall in the basement of Grace Episcopal Church.
