What are we supporting?

Lehigh Mission District (LMD)

The LMD is a regional sub-unit of the Synod, consisting of 24 congregations in Lehigh County. The congregations meet annually in preparation for the annual synod assembly. The rostered leaders of the congregations may meet monthly for mutual sharing and support. The mission district does some periodic programming to support the ministry of congregations in the district. Pr. Nelson Quinones of St. John, Fogelsville is the Dean of the LMD.

Lehigh Conference of Churches (LCC)

The LCC is an interdenominational gathering of Christian churches in Lehigh County. Their focus is Daybreak which is a program that feeds the homeless. Daybreak provides hot meals 6 days a week at their facility at 5th and Tilghman Streets. St. Timothy participates in the Daybreak program.

The LCC also works to address other social ministry and justice concerns in the Lehigh Valley, such as affordable housing and criminal justice reform.

Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod (NEPS)

St. Timothy contributes funds to the NEPS for Mission Support. About half of every dollar we provide is forwarded to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA.) The remaining funds support the Synod Office, the bishop, and the bishop’s staff who relate to rostered leaders and congregations. The bishop and staff work with congregations in the process of calling a pastor, when congregations are in conflict, or decide it’s time to close. The majority of the bishop’s staff are part-time, also serving as parish pastors. The Synod purchases an eighth or a quarter of their time. The Synod works with candidates who want to pursue a profession in church leadership. This can be through the traditional college & seminary model or through newer alternative models for leadership development.

Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA)

Funds sent to the ELCA support the staffing and programming of the ELCA. This includes those who work in the church office in Chicago as well as those who are deployed around the country. For example, Deacon Kat Tigerman who is assigned to the NEPS and with whom we are working on the 6261 model with the Allentown Collaborative Ministries.

ELCA mission support also funds ELCA missionaries around the world, campus pastors at colleges around the country, recruiting and training chaplains for work in military chaplaincy, as well as chaplaincy to those in medical facilities and prisons.
