Dear friends-in-faith,
Some of you are seasoned enough to remember
the TV show TO TELL THE TRUTH with Kitty
Carlisle, et al. The premise was interesting. As guests would
tell their story (sometimes spinning a tall tale), the panel of
celebrities were charged with the task of deciding if
it was the truth or not.
You and I hate to be deceived. But even more
than that, we want to know the truth. The truth about Life…
about God… about Others… and at times, the truth about
Ourselves. The roads-to-discovery may differ, but some are common
to all.
Sister Joan Chittister tells the story:
Once upon a time a visitor came to a monastery
looking for the purpose and meaning of life. The Teacher said
to the visitor, “If what you seek is Truth, there is one
thing you must have above all else.” “I know,”
the visitor said, “To find Truth I must have an overwhelming
passion for it.” “No,” the Teacher said; “In
order to find Truth, you must have an unremitting readiness
to admit you may be wrong.”
This is not comfortable advice. But one way
to practice it is by listening to others…
hearing their stories… discovering their truth… all
the while, coming to your own best understanding. And two of the
opportunities for doing this are weekly worship and weekly discussion
(Adult Forum). And there lies one of the main reasons I
come to church. How about you?
Adult Forum, Sunday School, and 10:30AM Worship
begin on September 20.
Baptized, together with you,

PS.
Adult Forum opportunities this year will include speakers Allan
Jennings, Rufus Zulu, Peter Pettit, Charlotte Gross, Jonathan
Mosebach, Terry Lieb, George Fennell, Chaplain Bill Horn, and
PK. Come listen to their stories.
