Ecclesiastical Church Year Calendar


 

The vitality of our Christian faith is stimulated by the outward reminders which we see within the confines of our church—its Christian symbols. Every aspect of the Church and its furnishings has a religious and spiritual message for those who understand its language. Our Ecclesiastical Church Year is divided into a number of Seasons, Festivals and Days, each symbolized by a specific color. The colors of the paraments used during our services and their symbolic importance are as follows:
 
 


Meaning:
The Godhead, light, joy, peace, purity, heaven

Used at: Christmas, Easter, Ascension Day, Epiphany, and Trinity

 


Meaning:
The Holy Ghost, zeal, fire, martyrdom

Used at: Pentecost, Reformation, Thanksgiving and Saints' Days

 


Meaning:
Penitence

Used at: Lent

 


Meaning:
Penitence

Used at: Advent

 


Meaning:
Growth in the Christian Life

Used at: The Sundays after Trinity

 


Meaning:
Deep mourning

Used at: Good Friday
